Draft Grade — Dolphins
Overall D
ValueC+ NeedB+ TradesF FutureA-
The Dolphins bet the future on Mendoza. The board says D.

Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Dolphins spent Round 7, Pick 11 on Roman Hemby, a name the board had a full 43 spots lower.

Whatever Fernando Mendoza becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back.

It is not that Scott is a bad player; it is that the Dolphins had louder needs to answer first. That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

However the rest shakes out, Sadiq at that price is a win they earned.

It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.

Pick Analysis
Pick2 Rnd1 Fernando Mendoza
In the 2nd pick they get their quarterback of the future. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick12 Rnd1 Mansoor Delane
In pick 12 they get a potential shutdown corner at fair value. More want than need.
Pick16 Rnd1 LT Overton
In the Round 1 slot they get a double-digit-sack hope, a steep price for the projection. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick33 Rnd2 Kenyon Sadiq
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Kenyon Sadiq in slot 33. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick44 Rnd2 Olaivavega Ioane
Olaivavega Ioane in pick No. 44 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick47 Rnd2 Omar Cooper Jr.
They reached into another round for Omar Cooper Jr., and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick75 Rnd3 Keionte Scott
A curious use of No. 75. Interior defensive lineman and linebacker needed the pick; a cornerback in Keionte Scott did not.
Pick87 Rnd3 Julian Neal
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went cornerback with Julian Neal while clear needs at interior defensive lineman and linebacker sat open.
Pick90 Rnd3 Caden Curry
They paid up for Caden Curry at Round 3, Pick 26 when waiting would have done the job. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick111 Rnd4 CJ Daniels
CJ Daniels at pick 111 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick149 Rnd5 Aamil Wagner
They jumped the gun on Aamil Wagner, taking him earlier than his grade liked. The roster fit checks out.
Pick192 Rnd6 Trey Zuhn III
A reach for Trey Zuhn III in the 192nd pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick227 Rnd7 Roman Hemby
Roman Hemby in the 227th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It fills a real need, too.
