Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Raiders spent Round 5, Pick 36 on Noah Whittington, a name the board had a full 53 spots lower.

Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. They have staked the next five years on Fernando Mendoza, which is the only story that really matters here.

The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Ponds at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and tight end is still a hole.
