Draft Grade — Chargers
Overall D+
ValueC+ NeedB TradesF FutureB-
The phones sank the Chargers this weekend: D+.

The Chargers clearly saw something nobody else did in Marquis Johnson, taking him 68 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. The math is unkind, and the D+ follows.

They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up. The Haulcy pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and tight end is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick29 Rnd1 Kayden McDonald
In pick No. 29 they get an anchor for the defensive front. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick55 Rnd2 CJ Allen
A tidy bit of business in Round 2, Pick 23, where CJ Allen graded well above the range. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick86 Rnd3 A.J. Haulcy
A slide stopped in the Round 3 slot, with A.J. Haulcy worth more than the price. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick106 Rnd4 D'Angelo Ponds
They took D'Angelo Ponds at par in No. 106, which is nothing to complain about. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick115 Rnd4 Boubacar Traore
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Boubacar Traore well ahead of where he belonged. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick123 Rnd4 Aaron Graves
A big swing on Aaron Graves at pick 123, well ahead of any board in the building. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick129 Rnd4 Jadarian Price
Jadarian Price in the 129th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick152 Rnd5 Iapani Laloulu
Iapani Laloulu at the 152nd pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
Pick190 Rnd6 Trey Zuhn III
Value said wait; Trey Zuhn III in the Round 6 slot says they were not listening. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick202 Rnd6 Marquis Johnson
Marquis Johnson at No. 202 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick221 Rnd7 Jalon Daniels
Jalon Daniels in pick 221 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A need, and now a little less of one.
