FutureB-
Flashes of a plan, unevenly run, for the Titans: C+. The Jamal Haynes pick is the one that will follow the Titans into the fall. They took him 32 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. The final tally is a middling C+.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. That is an offensive lineman worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. The Rivers pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at edge rusher, quarterback and other spots.
So much rides on Arvell Reese that the real verdict is a season or two away.
Pick Analysis
Pick23
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
In the 23rd pick they get a three-down second-level presence, outstanding value to boot. A real need, handled.
Pick35
Rnd2
Colton Hood
They let Colton Hood come to them and pounced at No. 35. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick54
Rnd2
Olaivavega Ioane
Olaivavega Ioane in the Round 2 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick66
Rnd3
Ja'Kobi Lane
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ja'Kobi Lane. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick68
Rnd3
Malachi Fields
A premium they did not need to pay, Malachi Fields a notch or two before his time. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick98
Rnd3
Harold Perkins Jr.
A tidy little value on Harold Perkins Jr. in the 98th overall pick, a step better than break-even. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick101
Rnd4
Chandler Rivers
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went cornerback with Chandler Rivers while clear needs at edge rusher, quarterback and other spots sat open.
Pick140
Rnd5
DeMonte Capehart
A reasonable price with a little left over, DeMonte Capehart in slot 140. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick142
Rnd5
DJ Campbell
DJ Campbell at the Round 5 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick182
Rnd6
Jamal Haynes
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jamal Haynes. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick238
Rnd7
Jacobe Johnson
Good price on Jacobe Johnson in the 238th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
