Draft Grade — Bengals
Overall D
ValueC+ NeedB TradesF FutureA+
The Bengals answered their biggest question with Mendoza. Grade: D.

Every swap seemed to tilt away from the Bengals, and the value they bled adds up to real damage. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D is the result.

So much rides on Fernando Mendoza that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. It is not that Curry is a bad player; it is that the Bengals had louder needs to answer first. A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want.

Reaching for Neal left real value on the table behind him. Getting Price where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and tight end is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick1 Rnd1 Fernando Mendoza
In pick 1 they get the face of the franchise. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick28 Rnd1 Romello Height
In No. 28 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare, even if it was a touch early. Need was not the driver here.
Pick36 Rnd2 Gennings Dunker
Gennings Dunker at the Round 2 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick38 Rnd2 Christen Miller
A straight-up fair deal on Christen Miller at the 38th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick41 Rnd2 Elijah Sarratt
By-the-book stuff, Elijah Sarratt at pick No. 41 squarely in line with his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick59 Rnd2 Julian Neal
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Julian Neal. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick72 Rnd3 Jadarian Price
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jadarian Price at Round 3, Pick 8. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick110 Rnd4 Caden Curry
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Caden Curry at edge rusher with tight end and linebacker open.
Pick128 Rnd4 Jalon Kilgore
Jalon Kilgore at No. 128 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
