Draft Grade — Bills
Overall B
ValueC+ NeedB+ TradesA+ FutureC+
The Bills worked the phones like thieves and earned a B.

The Bills clearly saw something nobody else did in Malachi Lawrence, taking him 51 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. The bottom line is a respectable B.

Golday at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

Adding DJ Moore by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick Analysis
Pick26 Rnd1 Olaivavega Ioane
In pick 26 they get protection for the quarterback. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick91 Rnd3 Jake Golday
They barely believed it either: Jake Golday still on the board at pick No. 91. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick97 Rnd3 Malachi Lawrence
A wild overpay on Malachi Lawrence in slot 97, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick160 Rnd5 Red Murdock
A real head-scratcher, Red Murdock in No. 160 is miles ahead of his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick163 Rnd5 Kaleb Proctor
No drama and no debate, Kaleb Proctor went about where he belonged in the 163rd pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick166 Rnd5 Ephesians Prysock
Ephesians Prysock at the 166th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick172 Rnd5 Ted Hurst
Ted Hurst at pick 172 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick220 Rnd7 Zavion Thomas
Zavion Thomas at the 220th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick228 Rnd7 Robert Spears-Jennings
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Robert Spears-Jennings. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
