Draft Grade — Saints
Overall B
ValueD+ NeedB+ TradesA FutureB+
Nobody dealt better than the Saints this weekend: B.

Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Saints spent pick 188 on Eric Gentry, a name the board had a full 80 spots lower. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.

Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick Analysis
Pick28 Rnd1 Emmanuel Pregnon
They paid up for Emmanuel Pregnon at slot 28 when waiting would have done the job. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick38 Rnd2 Elijah Sarratt
They paid a round early for Elijah Sarratt in the Round 2 slot, more than the board wanted. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick42 Rnd2 Malachi Fields
Malachi Fields in Round 2, Pick 10 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick73 Rnd3 Mike Washington Jr.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Mike Washington Jr. this early at the 73rd overall pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick106 Rnd4 DeMonte Capehart
DeMonte Capehart at No. 106 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick132 Rnd4 Trey Moore
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Trey Moore. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick136 Rnd4 Domani Jackson
A straight-up fair deal on Domani Jackson at pick 136, value and slot in agreement. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick148 Rnd5 DJ Campbell
A reach on DJ Campbell in pick No. 148; the board had better options right there. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick170 Rnd5 Rayshaun Benny
They jumped the gun on Rayshaun Benny, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick188 Rnd6 Eric Gentry
They reached a country mile for Eric Gentry at the Round 6 slot, and the board is aghast. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
