Draft Grade — Texans

FutureB-
The Texans let Stowers fall into their laps, and walked away with a B+. This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Eli Stowers, the No. 56 name on the board, stolen at pick No. 106. The bottom line is a respectable B+.
The Randall pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made.
Running back is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Sonny Styles
In No. 28 they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick49
Rnd2
Emmanuel Pregnon
A tidy bit of business in the 49th pick, where Emmanuel Pregnon graded well above the range. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick59
Rnd2
Caleb Banks
Steal is underselling it; Caleb Banks at slot 59 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick69
Rnd3
Jake Slaughter
They read the board right and Jake Slaughter was the payoff at pick No. 69. It fills a real need, too.
Pick82
Rnd3
Jadarian Price
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Jadarian Price in pick 82, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick106
Rnd4
Eli Stowers
Eli Stowers at the 106th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick128
Rnd4
Keylan Rutledge
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 4 slot with a little surplus value in Keylan Rutledge. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick161
Rnd5
Eli Raridon
They barely believed it either: Eli Raridon still on the board at Round 5, Pick 23. The roster fit checks out.
Pick165
Rnd5
Hezekiah Masses
A cornerback of that caliber at the 165th pick is the definition of value, full stop. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick234
Rnd7
Adam Randall
Adam Randall at No. 234 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick243
Rnd7
Zavion Thomas
Zavion Thomas slid further than he should have, and pick No. 243 is lovely value for the wide receiver. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick244
Rnd7
Jalon Daniels
The board had Jalon Daniels higher than slot 244, and the quarterback fell to them anyway. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
