Best value of the weekend goes to the Steelers for Trotter: B-.

The board owed the Steelers one, and it paid up: Josiah Trotter, the No. 56 name on the board, sitting there at the 76th pick like a gift left on the doorstep. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.

The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Every board in the league had Zuhn III lower, and that gap is the story.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.

Pick Analysis
Pick21 Rnd1 Carnell Tate
In the 21st pick they get a go-to option on the outside, and a steal at that. A real need, handled.
Pick53 Rnd2 Emmanuel Pregnon
They let Emmanuel Pregnon come to them and pounced at slot 53. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick76 Rnd3 Josiah Trotter
Josiah Trotter at the 76th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick85 Rnd3 Michael Taaffe
Michael Taaffe is a better player than No. 85 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick99 Rnd3 Devin Moore
A slide stopped in pick 99, with Devin Moore worth more than the price. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick121 Rnd4 Mike Washington Jr.
They did well to land Mike Washington Jr. in pick No. 121, just ahead of his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick135 Rnd4 Skyler Gill-Howard
Skyler Gill-Howard at the Round 4 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick161 Rnd5 Drew Allar
They read the board right and Drew Allar was the payoff at Round 5, Pick 21. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick216 Rnd6 Eli Heidenreich
They paid a round early for Eli Heidenreich in the Round 6 slot, more than the board wanted. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick224 Rnd7 Trey Zuhn III
Trey Zuhn III at No. 224 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick230 Rnd7 Desmond Reid
Desmond Reid in slot 230 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick237 Rnd7 Nolan Rucci
A premium they did not need to pay, Nolan Rucci a notch or two before his time. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
