The tape said wait; the Saints did not. Vincent Anthony Jr. went at No. 138, a good 53 picks before the board was ready.

They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. That offensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Mendoza. Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.
