Draft Grade — Saints
Overall C+
ValueB+ NeedB TradesC- FutureD
Quarterback settled, Klubnik in the fold, and a C+ for the Saints.

The war room fell hard for Mitchell Melton, and it showed at the Round 7 slot: 109 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. The good and the questionable cancel out to a C+.

Cade Klubnik gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits. However the rest shakes out, Sturdivant at that price is a win they earned.

They were the ones paying the moving tax this weekend. They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.

In the end, a coin-flip class: fine today, with a wide range of outcomes ahead.

Pick Analysis
Pick10 Rnd1 Cade Klubnik
In the 10th pick they get a long-term answer under center at fair value.
Pick25 Rnd1 Anthony Hill Jr.
In the 25th overall pick they get a three-down second-level presence, and a steal at that. Need was not the driver here.
Pick30 Rnd1 Jeremiyah Love
In slot 30 they get a three-down runner at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick63 Rnd2 Eric Singleton Jr.
They robbed the room for Eric Singleton Jr. here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick65 Rnd3 A.J. Harris
A.J. Harris in Round 3, Pick 1 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick69 Rnd3 Kevin Concepcion
A wide receiver of that caliber at pick 69 is the definition of value, full stop. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick95 Rnd3 Harold Perkins Jr.
A straight-up fair deal on Harold Perkins Jr. at the Round 3 slot, value and slot in agreement. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick105 Rnd4 Kenyon Sadiq
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Kenyon Sadiq at the 105th pick is the proof. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick122 Rnd4 Josh Moten
Nice patience on Josh Moten, who had no business lasting to Round 4, Pick 20. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick138 Rnd4 Isaac Smith
Isaac Smith at pick No. 138 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick144 Rnd5 Evan Stewart
Evan Stewart at slot 144 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick146 Rnd5 Monroe Mills
Monroe Mills at No. 146 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick161 Rnd5 Bear Alexander
They talked themselves into Bear Alexander at the 161st overall pick, and the board did not agree. It fills a real need, too.
Pick183 Rnd6 Conner Weigman
A tidy little value on Conner Weigman in pick 183, a step better than break-even. The roster fit checks out.
Pick200 Rnd6 Pat Coogan
They took Pat Coogan at par in slot 200, which is nothing to complain about. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick235 Rnd7 Mitchell Melton
A big swing on Mitchell Melton at pick No. 235, well ahead of any board in the building. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick244 Rnd7 Evan Tengesdahl
This one needs a full-page explanation: Evan Tengesdahl in pick 244, miles early. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick246 Rnd7 J.Michael Sturdivant
Steal is underselling it; J.Michael Sturdivant at Round 7, Pick 30 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick257 Rnd7 Avery Johnson
They will replay Avery Johnson at the 257th pick for years; that is how good the value is. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
