Draft Grade — Chargers
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Chargers let Haulcy fall into their laps, and walked away with a B-. Call it larceny. A.J. Haulcy sat on the board until No. 87, and the Chargers did not need to be asked twice.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. The Corleone pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. Interior defensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick22
Rnd1
Dontay Corleone
In pick 22 they get a wrecking ball inside, reach and all. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick56
Rnd2
Olaivavega Ioane
Olaivavega Ioane slid further than he should have, and the 56th overall pick is lovely value for the offensive lineman. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick87
Rnd3
A.J. Haulcy
Taking A.J. Haulcy in No. 87 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick122
Rnd4
Deion Burks
Deion Burks at pick No. 122 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick204
Rnd6
Earnest Greene III
Good price on Earnest Greene III in the 204th pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The roster fit checks out.
