Landry_3 DRAFTING FOR THEBengals

Draft Grade — Bengals
Overall

FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the Bengals. You can usually follow a front office's logic. This one is harder. The Bengals spent the 41st pick on Dani Dennis-Sutton while tight end, linebacker and other spots sat unaddressed.
The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The Jackson Jr. pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. They will need Dennis-Sutton to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick10
Rnd1
David Bailey
In Round 1, Pick 10 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare. Need was not the driver here.
Pick41
Rnd2
Dani Dennis-Sutton
Of all the spots to shop, they chose edge rusher. Dani Dennis-Sutton in pick 41 leaves tight end, linebacker and other spots for later.
Pick72
Rnd3
Darrell Jackson Jr.
Darrell Jackson Jr. slipping to slot 72 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick110
Rnd4
Monroe Freeling
A conviction pick on Monroe Freeling at Round 4, Pick 10 that the board grades a round light. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick189
Rnd6
Aaron Anderson
Nice patience on Aaron Anderson, who had no business lasting to the Round 6 slot. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick199
Rnd6
Xavier Nwankpa
Fair-plus on Xavier Nwankpa, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick226
Rnd7
DJ Harvey
DJ Harvey in No. 226 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
