The Saints let Cooper Jr. fall into their laps, and walked away with a B. Somebody in the 148th pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Saints sat still while Omar Cooper Jr., the No. 55 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
Every board in the league had Thomas lower, and that gap is the story. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Sonny Styles
In slot 28 they get the heartbeat of the defense at fair value.
Pick42
Rnd2
Olaivavega Ioane
Steal is underselling it; Olaivavega Ioane at the Round 2 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick59
Rnd2
Chris Brazzell II
A wide receiver of that caliber at pick No. 59 is the definition of value, full stop. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick73
Rnd3
Jadarian Price
Good price on Jadarian Price in Round 3, Pick 9, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It fills a real need, too.
Pick106
Rnd4
Max Klare
Max Klare at pick 106 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick132
Rnd4
DeMonte Capehart
DeMonte Capehart at the 132nd overall pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick136
Rnd4
Nadame Tucker
Nadame Tucker in No. 136 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick148
Rnd5
Omar Cooper Jr.
Omar Cooper Jr. in the 148th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick165
Rnd5
Ephesians Prysock
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Ephesians Prysock. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick170
Rnd5
Jalen Farmer
Jalen Farmer slipping to the Round 5 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick188
Rnd6
Zavion Thomas
A real head-scratcher, Zavion Thomas in the 188th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
