Allar should have been long gone. The Saints pounced, and earned a A-.

If you want a masterclass in dealing, watch the Saints, who turned every swap into a profit this weekend. The board rewarded a patient, disciplined weekend with a A-.

The Allar pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. Every board in the league had Jackson lower, and that gap is the story.

In the end it comes back to Olaivavega Ioane, and a haul good enough to build on right away.

Pick Analysis
Pick26 Rnd1 Olaivavega Ioane
In the Round 1 slot they get a cornerstone up front at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick42 Rnd2 CJ Allen
CJ Allen is a better player than Round 2, Pick 10 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick63 Rnd2 A.J. Haulcy
Nice patience on A.J. Haulcy, who had no business lasting to pick 63. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick125 Rnd4 Will Lee III
Will Lee III at slot 125 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick126 Rnd4 Joe Royer
Joe Royer slid further than he should have, and the 126th pick is lovely value for the tight end. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick132 Rnd4 Domani Jackson
Domani Jackson at No. 132 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick136 Rnd4 Logan Jones
A clean, defensible pick in Round 4, Pick 36 with a little surplus value in Logan Jones. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick148 Rnd5 DeMonte Capehart
DeMonte Capehart at pick 148 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the interior defensive lineman. The roster fit checks out.
Pick166 Rnd5 Drew Allar
They robbed the room for Drew Allar here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick170 Rnd5 Aaron Anderson
Aaron Anderson in slot 170 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick188 Rnd6 Jaydn Ott
A tidy bit of business in No. 188, where Jaydn Ott graded well above the range. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
