The Eagles let Taaffe fall into their laps, and walked away with a B. The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Michael Taaffe, pick No. 68, roughly 22 picks past where he belonged.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. They were the ones paying the moving tax this weekend. Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Anthony Hill Jr.
In the 30th pick they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker, and a steal at that. More want than need.
Pick62
Rnd2
Kevin Concepcion
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Kevin Concepcion at Round 2, Pick 30 is the proof. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick68
Rnd3
Michael Taaffe
Michael Taaffe in No. 68 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick119
Rnd4
Oscar Delp
Oscar Delp at pick 119 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the tight end. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick130
Rnd4
DJ Harvey
DJ Harvey slid further than he should have, and the 130th overall pick is lovely value for the cornerback. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick136
Rnd4
Terrance Carter
They did well to land Terrance Carter in the Round 4 slot, just ahead of his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick158
Rnd5
Duce Robinson
The board fumbled Duce Robinson all the way to slot 158, and they scooped it up. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick161
Rnd5
Davison Igbinosun
The board had Davison Igbinosun higher than pick No. 161, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick169
Rnd5
Rasheem Biles
Rasheem Biles in pick No. 169 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
