Draft Grade — Raiders
Overall F
ValueB- NeedB TradesF FutureD
The Raiders drew a line under the quarterback search with Mendoza: F.

The Raiders did not so much draft Malachi Lawrence as overpay for him, 31 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. About as rough as the board gets, and a F to prove it.

They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. Whatever Fernando Mendoza becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. For all the activity, running back went untouched, which is hard to explain.

Spend now, pay later; the math only works if this class delivers. That is an offensive lineman worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.

The verdict is harsh because the weekend was, and there is little to argue.

Pick Analysis
Pick1 Rnd1 Fernando Mendoza
In slot 1 they get their quarterback of the future. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick14 Rnd1 Olaivavega Ioane
They went early on Olaivavega Ioane in the 14th overall pick, and the value did not follow. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick36 Rnd2 Emmanuel Pregnon
No drama and no debate, Emmanuel Pregnon went about where he belonged in pick 36. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick67 Rnd3 Josiah Trotter
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Josiah Trotter in the 67th pick. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick102 Rnd4 Ja'Kobi Lane
Ja'Kobi Lane in pick No. 102 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick117 Rnd4 Malachi Lawrence
This one needs a full-page explanation: Malachi Lawrence in No. 117, miles early. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick134 Rnd4 Bud Clark
A slide stopped in Round 4, Pick 34, with Bud Clark worth more than the price. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick174 Rnd5 Aaron Anderson
A quiet steal in No. 174: Aaron Anderson for less than the market said. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick180 Rnd6 Aamil Wagner
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Aamil Wagner at the Round 6 slot is the proof. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick183 Rnd6 Zane Durant
Good price on Zane Durant in slot 183, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick219 Rnd7 Jadon Canady
A tidy bit of business in pick 219, where Jadon Canady graded well above the range. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
