The Raiders drew a line under the quarterback search with Mendoza: B-.

After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Raiders committed. Fernando Mendoza is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline.

Reaching for Payne left real value on the table behind him. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

The Black steal is the beam this whole class leans on. Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Pick Analysis
Pick1 Rnd1 Fernando Mendoza
In No. 1 they get their guy under center for the next decade at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick36 Rnd2 CJ Allen
CJ Allen in pick No. 36 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick67 Rnd3 Chase Bisontis
No edge and no loss on Chase Bisontis in Round 3, Pick 3; it is a wash and a sensible one. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick102 Rnd4 Kage Casey
Kage Casey at the 102nd overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick117 Rnd4 Jalon Kilgore
Jalon Kilgore in the Round 4 slot is fair value, right on his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick134 Rnd4 VJ Payne
VJ Payne at slot 134 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick175 Rnd5 Kaleb Elarms-Orr
Kaleb Elarms-Orr in pick 175 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick182 Rnd6 Aaron Anderson
Value with a capital V on Aaron Anderson in the 182nd pick, a genuine coup. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick185 Rnd6 Xavier Nwankpa
Xavier Nwankpa at pick No. 185 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick208 Rnd6 Trey Zuhn III
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Trey Zuhn III. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick219 Rnd7 Kaelon Black
Kaelon Black at pick 219 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A need, and now a little less of one.
