Draft Grade — Jets
Overall D
ValueB NeedB+ TradesF FutureB-
The Jets left with their quarterback, and a D to match.

The Jets put a flag in the ground for Kamran James, 56 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit. The math is unkind, and the D follows.

They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. Fernando Mendoza gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits. However the rest shakes out, Fifita at that price is a win they earned.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.

Pick Analysis
Pick1 Rnd1 Fernando Mendoza
In the 1st overall pick they get a franchise quarterback. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick16 Rnd1 Arvell Reese
In Round 1, Pick 16 they get a green-dot type in the middle at a price that makes it sweeter. Need was not the driver here.
Pick20 Rnd1 Makai Lemon
In the Round 1 slot they get a difference-maker at receiver at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick45 Rnd2 Keith Abney II
No edge and no loss on Keith Abney II in pick No. 45; it is a wash and a sensible one. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick84 Rnd3 Emmanuel McNeil-Warren
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren at pick 84 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick85 Rnd3 Connor Lew
Connor Lew in the 85th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick115 Rnd4 Parker Brailsford
They paid sticker price for Parker Brailsford in the 115th pick, and that is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick161 Rnd5 Zane Durant
They took Zane Durant at par in pick No. 161, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick178 Rnd5 Le'Veon Moss
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Le'Veon Moss. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick192 Rnd6 DJ Harvey
Nothing to complain about; DJ Harvey went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick206 Rnd6 Trey Zuhn III
Trey Zuhn III at Round 6, Pick 27 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick209 Rnd6 Kamran James
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Kamran James well ahead of where he belonged. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick218 Rnd7 Noah Fifita
The board fumbled Noah Fifita all the way to pick 218, and they scooped it up. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick234 Rnd7 Keaten Wade
Keaten Wade at No. 234 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick242 Rnd7 Ricardo Hallman
Ricardo Hallman at pick 242 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
