Draft Grade — Chiefs

FutureA+
The Chiefs got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D+. Somebody took the Chiefs to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it. Too much went sideways, and the D+ is the honest tally.
Every board in the league had Curry lower, and that gap is the story. The Chiefs indulged a want in McNeil-Warren while a need in running back stayed open. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through running back.
The McNeil-Warren pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and running back is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Sonny Styles
In the 30th overall pick they get a green-dot type in the middle, outstanding value to boot. A real need, handled.
Pick41
Rnd2
Joshua Josephs
They took Joshua Josephs at par in pick 41, which is nothing to complain about. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick46
Rnd2
Dillon Thieneman
Dillon Thieneman slipping to pick No. 46 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick74
Rnd3
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went safety with Emmanuel McNeil-Warren while clear needs at running back sat open.
Pick77
Rnd3
Jake Golday
A edge rusher of that caliber at Round 3, Pick 13 is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick82
Rnd3
Malachi Fields
Malachi Fields is a better player than the Round 3 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick97
Rnd3
Caden Curry
A big swing on Caden Curry at the 97th pick, well ahead of any board in the building. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick109
Rnd4
Sam Roush
Somehow Sam Roush was still sitting there in No. 109, and they pounced on premier tight end value. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick110
Rnd4
Treydan Stukes
A tidy bit of business in No. 110, where Treydan Stukes graded well above the range. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick146
Rnd5
DeMonte Capehart
DeMonte Capehart at the 146th overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick161
Rnd5
Aamil Wagner
By-the-book stuff, Aamil Wagner at Round 5, Pick 23 squarely in line with his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick167
Rnd5
Kaleb Proctor
Kaleb Proctor at the Round 5 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick169
Rnd5
Zane Durant
No drama and no debate, Zane Durant went about where he belonged in slot 169. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick176
Rnd5
Taylen Green
Taylen Green in pick 176 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick197
Rnd6
Ephesians Prysock
Ephesians Prysock at pick No. 197 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick205
Rnd6
Josh Cameron
Josh Cameron at the 205th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
