Draft Grade — Colts
Overall C+
ValueC NeedB- TradesB- FutureB-
The Colts did enough to get by: C+.

Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Colts spent Round 5, Pick 18 on Princewill Umanmielen, a name the board had a full 110 spots lower. For now it grades a C+, with the swing picks left to settle the rest.

It is not that Ponds is a bad player; it is that the Colts had louder needs to answer first. The wide receiver hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

However the rest shakes out, Hood at that price is a win they earned.

If Sonny Styles and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.

Pick Analysis
Pick49 Rnd2 Sonny Styles
Good price on Sonny Styles in pick No. 49, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick82 Rnd3 Colton Hood
A tidy bit of business in the Round 3 slot, where Colton Hood graded well above the range. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick117 Rnd4 D'Angelo Ponds
A curious use of the 117th overall pick. Wide receiver, quarterback and other spots needed the pick; a cornerback in D'Angelo Ponds did not.
Pick158 Rnd5 Princewill Umanmielen
A real head-scratcher, Princewill Umanmielen in pick 158 is miles ahead of his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick215 Rnd6 Trey Zuhn III
Trey Zuhn III at No. 215 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick233 Rnd7 Jeremiah Cobb
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jeremiah Cobb in Round 7, Pick 18, miles early. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick250 Rnd7 Bear Alexander
Bear Alexander at the Round 7 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
