FutureB-
Good, not great, for the Dolphins: B-. The Dolphins spent real capital to be 34 picks early on Chase Roberts, and the board is going to hold them to it. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
However the rest shakes out, Scott at that price is a win they earned. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. They will answer for taking cornerback early while interior defensive lineman, running back and other spots went begging.
The trades cost them a sliver of value they did not need to spend.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick Analysis
Pick18
Rnd1
Gennings Dunker
Gennings Dunker in Round 1, Pick 18 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick55
Rnd2
Jake Golday
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jake Golday this early at No. 55. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick75
Rnd3
Eli Stowers
A tidy bit of business in pick No. 75, where Eli Stowers graded well above the range. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick82
Rnd3
D'Angelo Ponds
D'Angelo Ponds at the 82nd pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick87
Rnd3
Keionte Scott
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending the 87th overall pick on Keionte Scott with interior defensive lineman, running back and other spots unsolved.
Pick90
Rnd3
Chase Bisontis
They talked themselves into Chase Bisontis at the Round 3 slot, and the board did not agree. It fills a real need, too.
Pick99
Rnd3
Caden Curry
Caden Curry in pick 99 is fair value, right on his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick115
Rnd4
Chase Roberts
They reached into another round for Chase Roberts, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick123
Rnd4
Eli Raridon
No edge and no loss on Eli Raridon in Round 4, Pick 23; it is a wash and a sensible one. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick149
Rnd5
Drew Allar
Drew Allar slid further than he should have, and the Round 5 slot is lovely value for the quarterback. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick227
Rnd7
Riley Mahlman
Riley Mahlman at pick No. 227 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
