FutureB
Quarterback settled, Mendoza in the fold, and a B for the Steelers. The Steelers spent the pick that matters most on Fernando Mendoza, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
They will regret leaving safety for another day if the season turns on it. They will need Gill-Howard to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The Stukes pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but safety.
Pick Analysis
Pick2
Rnd1
Fernando Mendoza
Fernando Mendoza at the Round 1 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick76
Rnd3
Austin Barber
Austin Barber at pick 76 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick99
Rnd3
Caden Curry
They liked Caden Curry enough to skip the value, taking him in pick No. 99. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick115
Rnd4
Skyler Gill-Howard
A wild overpay on Skyler Gill-Howard in the 115th overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick135
Rnd4
Eric Rivers
Eric Rivers at slot 135 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick159
Rnd5
Beau Stephens
They robbed the room for Beau Stephens here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick174
Rnd5
Treydan Stukes
Steal is underselling it; Treydan Stukes at the 174th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick213
Rnd6
Trebor Pena
No edge and no loss on Trebor Pena in No. 213; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick214
Rnd6
Keyshaun Elliott
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Keyshaun Elliott in No. 214. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
