The Eagles let Haulcy fall into their laps, and walked away with a F. Somebody took the Eagles to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it.
The wide receiver hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Haulcy at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
The cost of the Sapp reach is exactly the players who went right after him. They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.
There is no soft landing here: they fought the board and left wide receiver open, and the grade is the bill.
Pick Analysis
Pick13
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
In Round 1, Pick 13 they get the heartbeat of the defense. More want than need.
Pick29
Rnd1
Kenyon Sadiq
In the 29th pick they get a matchup weapon at tight end, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick94
Rnd3
A.J. Haulcy
A.J. Haulcy at the Round 3 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick109
Rnd4
Tyreak Sapp
A conviction pick on Tyreak Sapp at pick No. 109 that the board grades a round light. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick137
Rnd4
Beau Stephens
Beau Stephens at slot 137 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick151
Rnd5
Keagen Trost
Keagen Trost at No. 151 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick179
Rnd5
Matt Gulbin
Matt Gulbin in Round 5, Pick 41 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The roster fit checks out.
Pick201
Rnd6
Taylen Green
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Taylen Green at pick 201. It fills a real need, too.
Pick205
Rnd6
Toriano Pride Jr.
By-the-book stuff, Toriano Pride Jr. at the 205th pick squarely in line with his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick208
Rnd6
Terion Stewart
No edge and no loss on Terion Stewart in pick No. 208; it is a wash and a sensible one. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick246
Rnd7
Trey Zuhn III
Trey Zuhn III in the 246th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick251
Rnd7
Josh Cuevas
Josh Cuevas at the Round 7 slot nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick255
Rnd7
Robert Spears-Jennings
A straight-up fair deal on Robert Spears-Jennings at No. 255, value and slot in agreement. A need, and now a little less of one.
