The Steelers let Slaughter fall into their laps, and walked away with a B-.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Steelers were there to profit. Jake Slaughter, the No. 43 name on the board, should have been long gone before No. 85.

If Beck pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. They will answer for taking offensive lineman early while edge rusher went begging.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick Analysis
Pick21 Rnd1 Makai Lemon
In pick No. 21 they get a home-run threat at receiver, and a steal at that.
Pick53 Rnd2 Carson Beck
This one needs a full-page explanation: Carson Beck in pick 53, miles early. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick76 Rnd3 Max Iheanachor
No edge and no loss on Max Iheanachor in the Round 3 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick85 Rnd3 Jake Slaughter
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Jake Slaughter adds an offensive lineman and leaves edge rusher untouched.
Pick99 Rnd3 Devin Moore
The board fumbled Devin Moore all the way to the 99th overall pick, and they scooped it up. The roster fit checks out.
Pick121 Rnd4 Bishop Fitzgerald
Bishop Fitzgerald in No. 121 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick135 Rnd4 Chris McClellan
Chris McClellan at Round 4, Pick 35 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick159 Rnd5 Tanner Koziol
A clean, defensible pick in slot 159 with a little surplus value in Tanner Koziol. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick213 Rnd6 Raylen Wilson
Raylen Wilson at pick No. 213 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick214 Rnd6 Jalon Daniels
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jalon Daniels this early at pick 214. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick224 Rnd7 Noah Whittington
They took Noah Whittington at par in the 224th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick237 Rnd7 Owen Heinecke
A conviction pick on Owen Heinecke at the 237th pick that the board grades a round light. Not a spot anyone had flagged, which makes it a head-scratcher.
