The Steelers finally solved quarterback, and it carried them to a B-.

After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Steelers committed. Ty Simpson is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline.

If Shelton pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. The Slaughter pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. The Steelers indulged a want in Slaughter while a need in safety and edge rusher stayed open.

That safety hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick21 Rnd1 Ty Simpson
In No. 21 they get the arm they will build around. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick53 Rnd2 Drew Shelton
Drew Shelton at the Round 2 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick76 Rnd3 Ted Hurst
They went early on Ted Hurst in slot 76, and the value did not follow. The roster fit checks out.
Pick85 Rnd3 Jonah Coleman
A reach on Jonah Coleman in pick 85; the board had better options right there. It fills a real need, too.
Pick99 Rnd3 Jake Slaughter
Of all the spots to shop, they chose offensive lineman. Jake Slaughter in the 99th pick leaves safety and edge rusher for later.
Pick121 Rnd4 Tacario Davis
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Tacario Davis at the 121st overall pick. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick135 Rnd4 Kaleb Proctor
Kaleb Proctor at pick No. 135 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick161 Rnd5 Jaeden Roberts
Jaeden Roberts in Round 5, Pick 21 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick216 Rnd6 Dallen Bentley
They let Dallen Bentley come to them and pounced at No. 216. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick224 Rnd7 Jimmy Rolder
No drama and no debate, Jimmy Rolder went about where he belonged in slot 224. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick230 Rnd7 Chase Roberts
Chase Roberts is a better player than pick 230 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick237 Rnd7 Diego Pavia
They liked Diego Pavia enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 7 slot. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
