Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B

Larceny in No. 224 lands the Steelers a B, Kilgore and all.

The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Steelers watched Jalon Kilgore slide 110 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. More right than wrong, and a B to match.

It is not that Freeling is a bad player; it is that the Steelers had louder needs to answer first. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.

Quarterback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. They trusted the board more than the depth chart.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Carnell Tate
Carnell Tate at the Round 1 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick53 Rnd2 Olaivavega Ioane
Olaivavega Ioane in pick No. 53 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick63 Rnd2 Monroe Freeling
Of all the spots to shop, they chose offensive lineman. Monroe Freeling in No. 63 leaves edge rusher and running back for later.
Pick76 Rnd3 Colton Hood
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Colton Hood in the 76th overall pick, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick85 Rnd3 Emmanuel McNeil-Warren
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren at pick 85 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick99 Rnd3 Jacob Rodriguez
A linebacker of that caliber at Round 3, Pick 35 is the definition of value, full stop. It fills a real need, too.
Pick121 Rnd4 Hezekiah Masses
Hezekiah Masses in the 121st pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick131 Rnd4 Zakee Wheatley
Zakee Wheatley in slot 131 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick135 Rnd4 Cade Klubnik
A clean, defensible pick in the 135th overall pick with a little surplus value in Cade Klubnik. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick159 Rnd5 Brenen Thompson
Taking Brenen Thompson in the 159th pick is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick213 Rnd6 Oscar Delp
Oscar Delp at No. 213 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick214 Rnd6 Ephesians Prysock
You do not let a cornerback like Ephesians Prysock reach Round 6, Pick 35 and blink. They did not. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick224 Rnd7 Jalon Kilgore
Steal is underselling it; Jalon Kilgore at the Round 7 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick237 Rnd7 Zxavian Harris
Circle this one: Zxavian Harris at pick No. 237 is a fall that decides a draft. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
