Draft Grade — Rams
Overall C+
ValueB- NeedB- TradesD- FutureA
The Rams got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the C+.

The Rams did not so much draft Kamran James as overpay for him, 54 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. The final tally is a middling C+.

The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. It is not that Ponds is a bad player; it is that the Rams had louder needs to answer first. A whole weekend of picks and running back is somehow still a want.

Ponds falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.

So much rides on Mansoor Delane that the real verdict is a season or two away.

Pick Analysis
Pick13 Rnd1 Mansoor Delane
In pick 13 they get a potential shutdown corner at fair value.
Pick61 Rnd2 D'Angelo Ponds
A curious use of slot 61. Running back, tight end and other spots needed the pick; a cornerback in D'Angelo Ponds did not.
Pick93 Rnd3 Zakee Wheatley
Nice patience on Zakee Wheatley, who had no business lasting to the 93rd overall pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick97 Rnd3 Jacob Rodriguez
They took Jacob Rodriguez at par in pick No. 97, which is nothing to complain about. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick177 Rnd5 Isaiah Jatta
Isaiah Jatta at the Round 5 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick205 Rnd6 Roderick Kearney
Roderick Kearney at the 205th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick208 Rnd6 Kamran James
A big swing on Kamran James at pick 208, well ahead of any board in the building. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick215 Rnd6 J. Michael Sturdivant
They paid sticker price for J. Michael Sturdivant in the Round 6 slot, and that is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick232 Rnd7 Korey Foreman
A wild overpay on Korey Foreman in slot 232, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick250 Rnd7 Alex Harkey
Alex Harkey at the 250th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick256 Rnd7 Tyler Van Dyke
They talked themselves into Tyler Van Dyke at No. 256, and the board did not agree. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
