Mad Max DRAFTING FOR THEJets

Draft Grade — Jets
Overall
B
ValueB

TradesB-
FutureB-
Mendoza is the plan now, and the Jets grade out a B. The Jets spent the pick that matters most on Fernando Mendoza, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape.
Reaching for James left real value on the table behind him. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped safety, which is a strange place to end up. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Singleton.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but safety.
Pick Analysis
Pick2
Rnd1
Fernando Mendoza
In the 2nd overall pick they get a passer to set the clock by. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick16
Rnd1
Jordyn Tyson
In slot 16 they get a home-run threat at receiver at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick33
Rnd2
Kayden McDonald
Kayden McDonald slid further than he should have, and the Round 2 slot is lovely value for the interior defensive lineman. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick44
Rnd2
CJ Allen
CJ Allen at No. 44 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick103
Rnd4
Nicholas Singleton
Nicholas Singleton slipping to Round 4, Pick 3 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick175
Rnd5
Earnest Greene III
Earnest Greene III at pick 175 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick178
Rnd5
Josh Moten
Josh Moten at the 178th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick192
Rnd6
Trey Zuhn III
A straight-up fair deal on Trey Zuhn III at pick No. 192, value and slot in agreement. The roster fit checks out.
Pick206
Rnd6
De'Zhaun Stribling
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on De'Zhaun Stribling. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick210
Rnd6
Kamran James
Kamran James at pick No. 210 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick218
Rnd7
Brett Norfleet
Fair-plus on Brett Norfleet, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick242
Rnd7
Tosh Baker
Tosh Baker at the 242nd pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It fills a real need, too.
