Draft Grade — Jets
Overall C
ValueC+ NeedB TradesF FutureA
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Jets to a C.

Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Jets spent the Round 7 slot on Hykeem Williams, a name the board had a full 50 spots lower. A mixed bag that lands at C.

The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

They will answer for taking linebacker early while quarterback, cornerback and other spots went begging.

If Cashius Howell and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.

Pick Analysis
Pick12 Rnd1 Cashius Howell
Cashius Howell at No. 12 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick16 Rnd1 Sonny Styles
In slot 16 they get a three-down second-level presence. More want than need.
Pick33 Rnd2 Omar Cooper Jr.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Omar Cooper Jr.. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick44 Rnd2 Emmanuel Pregnon
A reasonable price with a little left over, Emmanuel Pregnon in the 44th overall pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick92 Rnd3 De'Zhaun Stribling
They took De'Zhaun Stribling at par in pick 92, which is nothing to complain about. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick103 Rnd4 Nicholas Singleton
They went early on Nicholas Singleton in Round 4, Pick 3, and the value did not follow. It fills a real need, too.
Pick140 Rnd4 Kaleb Elarms-Orr
They bypassed pressing needs at quarterback, cornerback and other spots to take Kaleb Elarms-Orr, a linebacker that was not the priority.
Pick179 Rnd5 DJ Campbell
They paid up for DJ Campbell at pick No. 179 when waiting would have done the job. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick228 Rnd7 Xavier Nwankpa
Xavier Nwankpa in the 228th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick242 Rnd7 Hykeem Williams
Hykeem Williams at the 242nd pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
