FutureB-
Good, not great, for the Lions: B-. The Lions looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Max Llewellyn at No. 91 regardless, 50 picks early. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
That linebacker hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss. Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick26
Rnd1
Olaivavega Ioane
They paid sticker price for Olaivavega Ioane in Round 1, Pick 26, and that is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick50
Rnd2
Max Iheanachor
Max Iheanachor at pick No. 50 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick60
Rnd2
Caden Curry
They left a pile of value on the table to take Caden Curry this early at slot 60. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick91
Rnd3
Max Llewellyn
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Max Llewellyn well ahead of where he belonged. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick118
Rnd4
Hezekiah Masses
They jumped the gun on Hezekiah Masses, taking him earlier than his grade liked. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick155
Rnd5
Sam Roush
No edge and no loss on Sam Roush in pick 155; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick186
Rnd6
VJ Payne
VJ Payne at slot 186 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick203
Rnd6
Bud Clark
A straight-up fair deal on Bud Clark at pick 203, value and slot in agreement. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick212
Rnd6
Cole Payton
Cole Payton in the 212th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick222
Rnd7
Nick Barrett
They talked themselves into Nick Barrett at the Round 7 slot, and the board did not agree. A minor itch, scratched.
