Draft Grade — Falcons
Overall
B-
ValueC+
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB
No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the Falcons. If confidence were a draft strategy, the Falcons would have aced it. Logan Fano at slot 166 is 71 spots clear of where he belonged. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Klare. They punted on offensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The Falcons indulged a want in Lee III while a need in offensive lineman stayed open.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick Analysis
Pick91
Rnd3
Max Klare
Max Klare at the 91st pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick94
Rnd3
Malik Muhammad
You do not let a cornerback like Malik Muhammad reach pick 94 and blink. They did not. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick108
Rnd4
Will Lee III
A curious use of Round 4, Pick 8. Offensive lineman needed the pick; a cornerback in Will Lee III did not.
Pick114
Rnd4
Chris McClellan
They jumped the gun on Chris McClellan, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick126
Rnd4
Vincent Anthony Jr.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Vincent Anthony Jr. in slot 126, miles early. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick166
Rnd5
Logan Fano
Logan Fano at the Round 5 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick194
Rnd6
Keyshaun Elliott
Keyshaun Elliott at pick 194 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick195
Rnd6
Tyren Montgomery
Tyren Montgomery at the Round 6 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick213
Rnd6
Jadon Canady
Jadon Canady in slot 213 lands just on the right side of the ledger. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick214
Rnd6
Dane Key
They did well to land Dane Key in pick No. 214, just ahead of his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick220
Rnd7
Cole Payton
A premium they did not need to pay, Cole Payton a notch or two before his time. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick228
Rnd7
Noah Whittington
A tidy little value on Noah Whittington in Round 7, Pick 12, a step better than break-even. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick231
Rnd7
Jimmy Rolder
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jimmy Rolder in the 231st overall pick. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
