Draft Grade — Jets
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesD FutureA
No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the Jets.

There is reaching, and then there is Garrett Nussmeier at No. 44. The Jets jumped the board by 37 and dared it to prove them wrong. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.

That is a safety worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. With interior defensive lineman and offensive lineman unsolved, spending premium capital on linebacker is the choice that costs them.

The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick Analysis
Pick12 Rnd1 Arvell Reese
In pick 12 they get a downhill thumper at linebacker. More want than need.
Pick16 Rnd1 Carnell Tate
In the 16th overall pick they get a true top target at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick20 Rnd1 Akheem Mesidor
In No. 20 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare, though they paid up to get him. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick33 Rnd2 CJ Allen
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, CJ Allen adds a linebacker and leaves interior defensive lineman and offensive lineman untouched.
Pick44 Rnd2 Garrett Nussmeier
A real head-scratcher, Garrett Nussmeier in the Round 2 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick92 Rnd3 Treydan Stukes
They barely believed it either: Treydan Stukes still on the board at slot 92. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick103 Rnd4 Davison Igbinosun
Steal is underselling it; Davison Igbinosun at slot 103 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick140 Rnd4 Nadame Tucker
Value said wait; Nadame Tucker in pick 140 says they were not listening. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick179 Rnd5 Demond Claiborne
Nice patience on Demond Claiborne, who had no business lasting to the 179th pick. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick228 Rnd7 VJ Payne
A safety of that caliber at pick No. 228 is the definition of value, full stop. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick242 Rnd7 Kaden Wetjen
Kaden Wetjen slid further than he should have, and the Round 7 slot is lovely value for the wide receiver. It fills a real need, too.
