The phones were a trap the Cardinals kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. They banked enough surplus on Neyor to cover a lot of smaller sins.
The future picks help the war chest more than the win-now roster. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
R1.15
· Pick 15
· Laiatu Latu
· DL-EDGE
· rank 7
In pick 15 they get a double-digit-sack hope, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R1.26
· Pick 26
· Keon Coleman
· WR
· rank 28
In the Round 1 slot they get a go-to option on the outside. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.3
· Pick 35
· Jordan Morgan
· OT
· rank 26
The board had Jordan Morgan higher than slot 35, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R3.2
· Pick 66
· Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
· LB
· rank 64
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at pick No. 66 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R3.7
· Pick 71
· Caelen Carson
· CB
· rank 66
They did well to land Caelen Carson in Round 3, Pick 7, just ahead of his grade. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R3.26
· Pick 89
· Christian Mahogany
· OG
· rank 86
Nothing to complain about; Christian Mahogany went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R4.4
· Pick 104
· Donovan Edwards
· RB
· rank 102
Donovan Edwards at No. 104 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
R5.2
· Pick 138
· Jaden Hicks
· S
· rank 126
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jaden Hicks in pick 138. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R5.4
· Pick 140
· Sataoa Laumea
· OT
· rank 122
You do not let an offensive lineman like Sataoa Laumea reach the 140th overall pick and blink. They did not. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R5.17
· Pick 153
· Moose Muhammad III
· WR
· rank 153
Moose Muhammad III in slot 153 is fair value, right on his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R6.13
· Pick 188
· AJ Barner
· TE
· rank 184
AJ Barner at the 188th pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A need, and now a little less of one.
R7.7
· Pick 227
· Isaiah Neyor
· WR
· rank 207
The board fumbled Isaiah Neyor all the way to the Round 7 slot, and they scooped it up. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R7.15
· Pick 235
· Jordan Magee
· LB
· rank 217
Jordan Magee at Round 7, Pick 15 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The roster fit checks out.
