Best value of the weekend goes to the Cowboys for Johnson: B-. Somebody in No. 127 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Cowboys sat still while Emmett Johnson, the No. 104 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. If Mesidor pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Mansoor Delane
In the 12th overall pick they get a potential shutdown corner. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick20
Rnd1
Akheem Mesidor
In Round 1, Pick 20 they get juice off the edge, reach and all. Need was not the driver here.
Pick112
Rnd4
Jalen Farmer
A clean, defensible pick in No. 112 with a little surplus value in Jalen Farmer. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick127
Rnd4
Emmett Johnson
Somehow Emmett Johnson was still sitting there in the Round 4 slot, and they pounced on premier running back value. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick142
Rnd5
Skyler Gill-Howard
A conviction pick on Skyler Gill-Howard at pick 142 that the board grades a round light. The roster fit checks out.
Pick165
Rnd5
Bryce Boettcher
Bryce Boettcher at pick No. 165 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick177
Rnd5
Keagen Trost
Keagen Trost in slot 177 is fair value, right on his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick180
Rnd5
Aaron Anderson
They did well to land Aaron Anderson in the 180th pick, just ahead of his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick182
Rnd6
Red Murdock
No drama and no debate, Red Murdock went about where he belonged in pick 182. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
