Draft Grade — Browns
Overall C+
ValueC NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
A weekend that raised as many questions as it answered. The Browns get a C+.

The Browns treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending pick No. 139 on Bryce Foster a full 116 spots early. Some smart calls, some head-scratchers, and a C+ in the wash.

They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. The McAlister pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

Call it incomplete, and check back in a couple of seasons.

Pick Analysis
Pick6 Rnd1 Caleb Lomu
In the 6th overall pick they get protection for the quarterback, a steep price for the projection.
Pick24 Rnd1 Denzel Boston
In No. 24 they get a true top target at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick39 Rnd2 Emmanuel Pregnon
Emmanuel Pregnon at the 39th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick70 Rnd3 Max Klare
By-the-book stuff, Max Klare at pick 70 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick107 Rnd4 Bryce Lance
Bryce Lance at the Round 4 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick139 Rnd5 Bryce Foster
Bryce Foster at slot 139 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick144 Rnd5 Tanner Koziol
They liked Tanner Koziol enough to skip the value, taking him in slot 144. The roster fit checks out.
Pick147 Rnd5 Ted Hurst
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Ted Hurst well ahead of where he belonged. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick204 Rnd6 Eric McAlister
A quiet steal in the 204th pick: Eric McAlister for less than the market said. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick248 Rnd7 Brett Norfleet
Brett Norfleet at the Round 7 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
