Lostboyrufio DRAFTING FOR THEJaguars
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Jaguars
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Jaguars a B-. The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Jaguars reached some 57 spots for Kalil Alexander, and value like that does not grow back. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
They will answer for taking edge rusher early while interior defensive lineman, linebacker and other spots went begging. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.
The Branch steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick56
Rnd2
Gennings Dunker
Gennings Dunker at the Round 2 slot nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick81
Rnd3
Zachariah Branch
Zachariah Branch in slot 81 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick88
Rnd3
Jaishawn Barham
A big swing on Jaishawn Barham at the 88th pick, well ahead of any board in the building. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick100
Rnd3
Tacario Davis
Tacario Davis at Round 3, Pick 36 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick124
Rnd4
Malachi Lawrence
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending pick 124 on Malachi Lawrence with interior defensive lineman, linebacker and other spots unsolved.
Pick162
Rnd5
Tanner Koziol
A clean, defensible pick in No. 162 with a little surplus value in Tanner Koziol. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick164
Rnd5
Louis Moore
Louis Moore is a better player than pick No. 164 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick233
Rnd7
Kalil Alexander
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Kalil Alexander well ahead of where he belonged. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick245
Rnd7
Desmond Reid
No drama and no debate, Desmond Reid went about where he belonged in Round 7, Pick 29. The roster fit checks out.
