A respectable, level-headed haul for the Steelers: B-.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Steelers did exactly that with Cade Klubnik in the 76th overall pick. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.

With edge rusher unsolved, spending premium capital on offensive lineman is the choice that costs them. However the rest shakes out, Corleone at that price is a win they earned.

If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick21 Rnd1 Carnell Tate
In No. 21 they get a home-run threat at receiver, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick53 Rnd2 Blake Miller
Blake Miller in the Round 2 slot is fair value, right on his grade. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick76 Rnd3 Cade Klubnik
They left a pile of value on the table to take Cade Klubnik this early at the 76th overall pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick85 Rnd3 Dontay Corleone
A slide stopped in the 85th pick, with Dontay Corleone worth more than the price. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick99 Rnd3 Sam Hecht
A want over a need in pick 99: Sam Hecht adds an offensive lineman while edge rusher keeps waiting.
Pick121 Rnd4 Mike Washington Jr.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Mike Washington Jr. at slot 121. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick135 Rnd4 Davison Igbinosun
Davison Igbinosun at No. 135 is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick159 Rnd5 Tanner Koziol
Tanner Koziol in pick No. 159 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick213 Rnd6 Dalton Johnson
Nice patience on Dalton Johnson, who had no business lasting to the 213th pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick214 Rnd6 Jalon Daniels
A big swing on Jalon Daniels at slot 214, well ahead of any board in the building. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick224 Rnd7 Keyshaun Elliott
Keyshaun Elliott is a better player than Round 7, Pick 8 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick237 Rnd7 Owen Heinecke
They liked Owen Heinecke enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 237. A fine player at a spot low on the priority list.
