Draft Grade — Panthers
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Panthers, and a B- to prove it.

The tape said wait; the Panthers did not. Eric O'Neill went at pick No. 151, a good 46 picks before the board was ready. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.

They banked enough surplus on Robertson to cover a lot of smaller sins. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through offensive lineman. They went 5 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick Analysis
Pick14 Rnd1 T.J. Parker
In the 14th overall pick they get a quarterback's worst nightmare. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick49 Rnd2 Daylen Everette
Daylen Everette at pick 49 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick80 Rnd3 Antonio Williams
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Antonio Williams at Round 3, Pick 16. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick115 Rnd4 Akheem Mesidor
They reached a country mile for Akheem Mesidor at slot 115, and the board is aghast. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick151 Rnd5 Eric O'Neill
They reached into another round for Eric O'Neill, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick154 Rnd5 Jacob Rodriguez
Jacob Rodriguez at the Round 5 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick197 Rnd6 Gracen Halton
No drama and no debate, Gracen Halton went about where he belonged in the 197th pick. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick231 Rnd7 Sawyer Robertson
Circle this one: Sawyer Robertson at the 231st overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. The roster fit checks out.
