Draft Grade — Vikings
Overall B
ValueB+ NeedB- TradesB FutureC+
Grand theft in Round 3, Pick 33: the Vikings steal Lew and grade out a B.

You could see the war room lean forward. Connor Lew at pick No. 97 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.

They will need Aguilar to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

The roster is better shaped than it was, with quarterback chief among the fixes. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.

Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick18 Rnd1 Arvell Reese
In the Round 1 slot they get a green-dot type in the middle, and a steal at that.
Pick49 Rnd2 Dillon Thieneman
They read the board right and Dillon Thieneman was the payoff at pick No. 49. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick94 Rnd3 Keionte Scott
Keionte Scott in slot 94 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick97 Rnd3 Connor Lew
They will replay Connor Lew at pick 97 for years; that is how good the value is. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick127 Rnd4 Chris McClellan
No edge and no loss on Chris McClellan in No. 127; it is a wash and a sensible one. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick133 Rnd4 CJ Daniels
They paid sticker price for CJ Daniels in Round 4, Pick 33, and that is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick138 Rnd4 Mike Washington Jr.
Good price on Mike Washington Jr. in the 138th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick161 Rnd5 Kevin Coleman Jr.
Value with a capital V on Kevin Coleman Jr. in the 161st pick, a genuine coup. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick168 Rnd5 Davison Igbinosun
Davison Igbinosun is a better player than the 168th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick194 Rnd6 Matt Gulbin
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Matt Gulbin at Round 6, Pick 15 is the proof. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick234 Rnd7 Miles Kitselman
Nice patience on Miles Kitselman, who had no business lasting to the 234th pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick240 Rnd7 Trey Zuhn III
No drama and no debate, Trey Zuhn III went about where he belonged in pick No. 240. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick246 Rnd7 Jack Kelly
They paid a round early for Jack Kelly in the Round 7 slot, more than the board wanted. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick255 Rnd7 Joey Aguilar
Value said wait; Joey Aguilar in No. 255 says they were not listening. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
