Draft Grade — Vikings
Overall D-
ValueB- NeedB TradesF FutureB-
The phones sank the Vikings this weekend: D-.

Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Tyler Van Dyke at the Round 7 slot is 52 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. A D- that will need time and luck to look better.

The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. They banked enough surplus on Price to cover a lot of smaller sins.

The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.

Pick Analysis
Pick29 Rnd1 Avieon Terrell
In pick 29 they get a press-man option on the boundary, outstanding value to boot. More want than need.
Pick49 Rnd2 Dillon Thieneman
Nothing to complain about; Dillon Thieneman went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick62 Rnd2 Deontae Lawson
A reasonable price with a little left over, Deontae Lawson in Round 2, Pick 30. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick80 Rnd3 Jadarian Price
Circle this one: Jadarian Price at slot 80 is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick82 Rnd3 Domonique Orange
Domonique Orange at the 82nd pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick93 Rnd3 Zachariah Branch
A conviction pick on Zachariah Branch at the 93rd overall pick that the board grades a round light. It fills a real need, too.
Pick97 Rnd3 Malachi Lawrence
Malachi Lawrence in the 97th pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick130 Rnd4 Michael Trigg
Michael Trigg slid further than he should have, and No. 130 is lovely value for the tight end. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick161 Rnd5 Jermaine Mathews Jr.
Jermaine Mathews Jr. at the Round 5 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick167 Rnd5 Earnest Greene III
They took Earnest Greene III at par in pick 167, which is nothing to complain about. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick194 Rnd6 Bryce Foster
Bryce Foster at pick No. 194 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick205 Rnd6 Trey Zuhn III
Trey Zuhn III at slot 205 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick208 Rnd6 Haynes King
Haynes King at the 208th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick232 Rnd7 Roman Hemby
They reached a country mile for Roman Hemby at Round 7, Pick 16, and the board is aghast. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick234 Rnd7 Tyler Van Dyke
Value said wait; Tyler Van Dyke in No. 234 says they were not listening. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick250 Rnd7 Markis Deal
Markis Deal in pick 250 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
