Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the Steelers. There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Steelers started one anyway for Cade Klubnik, 56 picks ahead of schedule.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Haulcy. Spending an early pick on offensive lineman with edge rusher open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. Job largely done: quarterback settled and 8 of 9 of the wish list covered.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick Analysis
Pick21
Rnd1
Caleb Lomu
In slot 21 they get a plug-and-play piece up front. More want than need.
Pick53
Rnd2
Chris Bell
They let Chris Bell come to them and pounced at pick No. 53. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick76
Rnd3
A.J. Haulcy
They robbed the room for A.J. Haulcy here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick85
Rnd3
Cade Klubnik
Cade Klubnik at the 85th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick99
Rnd3
Max Klare
Max Klare at the 99th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick121
Rnd4
Malik Muhammad
They will replay Malik Muhammad at pick 121 for years; that is how good the value is. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick135
Rnd4
Parker Brailsford
A want over a need in pick 135: Parker Brailsford adds an offensive lineman while edge rusher keeps waiting.
Pick161
Rnd5
Beau Stephens
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Beau Stephens. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick216
Rnd6
Sawyer Robertson
Sawyer Robertson at pick No. 216 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick224
Rnd7
Brandon Cleveland
No edge and no loss on Brandon Cleveland in slot 224; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick230
Rnd7
Noah Whittington
A reach on Noah Whittington in No. 230; the board had better options right there. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick237
Rnd7
Owen Heinecke
They went early on Owen Heinecke in the 237th overall pick, and the value did not follow. The roster fit checks out.
