Draft Grade — Saints
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the Saints.

You can draft well and still miss the point. The Saints did plenty of tidy work and somehow never got around to running back, which was the need that mattered most. No fireworks, but a solid B-.

That Trigg pick is the receipt they will wave around later. Lawrence has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.

Good work on the whole, with running back the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick8 Rnd1 Caleb Downs
In pick No. 8 they get a ballhawk on the back end. Need was not the driver here.
Pick42 Rnd2 Malachi Lawrence
They went early on Malachi Lawrence in slot 42, and the value did not follow. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick73 Rnd3 Domonique Orange
They took Domonique Orange at par in the 73rd overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick132 Rnd4 Michael Trigg
The board had Michael Trigg higher than the Round 4 slot, and the tight end fell to them anyway. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick136 Rnd4 Will Lee III
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Will Lee III in Round 4, Pick 36. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick150 Rnd5 Drew Allar
The board had cheaper options than Drew Allar at pick 150, and it noticed. The roster fit checks out.
Pick172 Rnd5 Eric Rivers
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Eric Rivers. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick190 Rnd6 Ar'maj Reed-Adams
Ar'maj Reed-Adams at No. 190 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
