Draft Grade — Jaguars

FutureB-
A solid, sensible weekend for the Jaguars: B-. They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Jack Pyburn, 45 picks early at No. 245. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took McAlister. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick56
Rnd2
LT Overton
They jumped the gun on LT Overton, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick81
Rnd3
Bryce Lance
They went early on Bryce Lance in the Round 3 slot, and the value did not follow. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick88
Rnd3
Jude Bowry
Jude Bowry at pick 88 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick100
Rnd3
Deontae Lawson
Deontae Lawson in pick No. 100 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick124
Rnd4
Bud Clark
Bud Clark in No. 124 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick164
Rnd5
Hezekiah Masses
They will replay Hezekiah Masses at Round 5, Pick 24 for years; that is how good the value is. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick166
Rnd5
Marlin Klein
Marlin Klein at pick No. 166 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the tight end. It fills a real need, too.
Pick203
Rnd6
Zane Durant
Zane Durant at slot 203 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick233
Rnd7
Eric McAlister
Circle this one: Eric McAlister at No. 233 is a fall that decides a draft. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick240
Rnd7
Robert Henry Jr.
They paid up for Robert Henry Jr. at Round 7, Pick 24 when waiting would have done the job. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick245
Rnd7
Jack Pyburn
Jack Pyburn at the Round 7 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
