Draft Grade — Jets
Overall

ValueB-
NeedB+

FutureB
Mendoza is the plan now, and the Jets grade out a B+. Nobody had Roman Hemby this high, and it is not close. The Jets reached 64 spots to get him at the Round 7 slot. Good, not great, and the B+ says as much.
Fernando Mendoza is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. Lane at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick Analysis
Pick2
Rnd1
Fernando Mendoza
No edge and no loss on Fernando Mendoza in the 2nd pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick18
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Arvell Reese at the Round 1 slot is the proof. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick33
Rnd2
Sonny Styles
Sonny Styles in pick 33 is fair value, right on his grade. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick44
Rnd2
Dillon Thieneman
By-the-book stuff, Dillon Thieneman at Round 2, Pick 12 squarely in line with his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick103
Rnd4
Ja'Kobi Lane
The board fumbled Ja'Kobi Lane all the way to the 103rd overall pick, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick175
Rnd5
Gracen Halton
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Gracen Halton. The roster fit checks out.
Pick179
Rnd5
Oscar Delp
Nothing to complain about; Oscar Delp went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick193
Rnd6
Trey Zuhn III
A conviction pick on Trey Zuhn III at pick 193 that the board grades a round light. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick207
Rnd6
Tony Grimes
Tony Grimes at Round 6, Pick 27 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick211
Rnd6
Da'Shawn Womack
Da'Shawn Womack at the 211th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick218
Rnd7
Roman Hemby
They reached into another round for Roman Hemby, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick242
Rnd7
Evan Tengesdahl
This one needs a full-page explanation: Evan Tengesdahl in slot 242, miles early. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
