Draft Grade — Jets
Overall B
ValueB NeedA- TradesB- FutureB-
The Jets left with their quarterback, and a B to match.

The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Jets spent their marquee pick on Fernando Mendoza, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. The bottom line is a respectable B.

Alexander has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. Getting Orange where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick2 Rnd1 Fernando Mendoza
By-the-book stuff, Fernando Mendoza at pick No. 2 squarely in line with his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick16 Rnd1 Caleb Downs
In slot 16 they get a ballhawk on the back end, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick33 Rnd2 Denzel Boston
Denzel Boston at No. 33 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick44 Rnd2 Kayden McDonald
Kayden McDonald in the 44th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick103 Rnd4 Domonique Orange
You do not let an interior defensive lineman like Domonique Orange reach Round 4, Pick 3 and blink. They did not. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick175 Rnd5 Bryce Boettcher
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Bryce Boettcher at the 175th pick. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick178 Rnd5 Kalil Alexander
Kalil Alexander at the Round 5 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick192 Rnd6 Xavier Nwankpa
Somehow Xavier Nwankpa was still sitting there in pick 192, and they pounced on premier safety value. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick206 Rnd6 Thaddeus Dixon
They robbed the room for Thaddeus Dixon here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick209 Rnd6 Desmond Reid
Desmond Reid in the Round 6 slot lands just on the right side of the ledger. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick218 Rnd7 Barion Brown
Barion Brown is a better player than the 218th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The roster fit checks out.
Pick242 Rnd7 Micah Morris
They paid sticker price for Micah Morris in slot 242, and that is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
