Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall
B

FutureB
A respectable, level-headed haul for the Cowboys: B. Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Cowboys spent Round 7, Pick 15 on Haynes King, a name most had 77 spots down the list. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
That is a running back worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer. On the needs board they went 7 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
David Bailey
Nothing to complain about; David Bailey went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick49
Rnd2
D'Angelo Ponds
They paid sticker price for D'Angelo Ponds in the 49th pick, and that is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick66
Rnd3
Jacob Rodriguez
Jacob Rodriguez at pick 66 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick90
Rnd3
Jadarian Price
They barely believed it either: Jadarian Price still on the board at the 90th overall pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick92
Rnd3
Domonique Orange
They let Domonique Orange come to them and pounced at No. 92. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick97
Rnd3
Elijah Sarratt
Elijah Sarratt in the Round 3 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick122
Rnd4
Billy Schrauth
Billy Schrauth at No. 122 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick152
Rnd5
Louis Moore
They paid a round early for Louis Moore in the Round 5 slot, more than the board wanted. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick177
Rnd5
Zane Durant
Zane Durant in pick No. 177 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick180
Rnd5
Jeff Caldwell
They jumped the gun on Jeff Caldwell, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick215
Rnd6
Noah Whittington
Noah Whittington at the 215th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The roster fit checks out.
Pick218
Rnd7
Jadon Canady
Good price on Jadon Canady in slot 218, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick231
Rnd7
Haynes King
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Haynes King well ahead of where he belonged. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
