The Titans let Allen fall into their laps, and walked away with a B. Somewhere a general manager is explaining how CJ Allen got past him. The Titans do not have to explain a thing at No. 65. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through running back. Every board in the league had Brown lower, and that gap is the story. The roster is better shaped than it was, with offensive lineman chief among the fixes.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Rueben Bain Jr.
In the 1st pick they get a double-digit-sack hope. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick33
Rnd2
Jake Slaughter
A straight-up fair deal on Jake Slaughter at pick 33, value and slot in agreement. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick65
Rnd3
CJ Allen
The board fumbled CJ Allen all the way to Round 3, Pick 1, and they scooped it up. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick101
Rnd4
Omar Cooper Jr.
Good price on Omar Cooper Jr. in slot 101, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick141
Rnd5
Bray Hubbard
A reasonable price with a little left over, Bray Hubbard in the Round 5 slot. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick144
Rnd5
Jyaire Hill
Jyaire Hill in the 144th overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick179
Rnd6
DJ Campbell
No drama and no debate, DJ Campbell went about where he belonged in pick No. 179. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick236
Rnd7
Barion Brown
The board had cheaper options than Barion Brown at No. 236, and it noticed. It fills a real need, too.
