If confidence were a draft strategy, the 49ers would have aced it. Dani Dennis-Sutton at the Round 2 slot is 30 spots clear of where he belonged. The math is unkind, and the D- follows.

The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. Spending an early pick on cornerback with running back and interior defensive lineman open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. They punted on running back, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

The Hurst steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
