Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall

FutureB-
A respectable, level-headed haul for the Steelers: B-. Boards are made to be trusted, and the Steelers shredded theirs for Taylen Green. He came off 51 spots early, and the room will hear about it. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman. Getting Slaughter where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with quarterback chief among the fixes.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick21
Rnd1
Sonny Styles
In the 21st overall pick they get the heartbeat of the defense. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick53
Rnd2
Omar Cooper Jr.
A straight-up fair deal on Omar Cooper Jr. at No. 53, value and slot in agreement. It fills a real need, too.
Pick76
Rnd3
Jake Slaughter
Jake Slaughter at the Round 3 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick85
Rnd3
Jacob Rodriguez
Jacob Rodriguez at slot 85 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick99
Rnd3
Harold Perkins Jr.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Harold Perkins Jr.. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick121
Rnd4
Bryce Lance
No drama and no debate, Bryce Lance went about where he belonged in the 121st pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick135
Rnd4
Taylen Green
A real head-scratcher, Taylen Green in No. 135 is miles ahead of his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick159
Rnd5
Ted Hurst
The board had cheaper options than Ted Hurst at pick No. 159, and it noticed. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick213
Rnd6
Jadon Canady
Good price on Jadon Canady in Round 6, Pick 34, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick214
Rnd6
Jeremiah Wright
By-the-book stuff, Jeremiah Wright at pick 214 squarely in line with his ranking. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick224
Rnd7
Keyshaun Elliott
Value with a capital V on Keyshaun Elliott in the 224th overall pick, a genuine coup. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick237
Rnd7
Caleb Douglas
Caleb Douglas at the Round 7 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
